Semyon Bychkov’s inaugural tour with the Czech Philharmonic started in London on 24 October with a special centenary concert at the Royal Academy of Music attended by the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, followed by performances at the end of the month at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center. In Washington, Bychkov accepted on behalf of the Czech Philharmonic, the 2018 Antonín Dvořák Prize awarded by the Karel Komárek Family Foundation for the Orchestra’s lasting contribution to Czech culture.
Bychkov’s tour with the Orchestra continues this month with eight further performances including stops in Michigan (East Lansing and Ann Arbor), Chicago and California (Costa Mesa, Stanford, San Francisco and Davis). At the end of November, he takes the Orchestra to Vienna for a three-day residency at the Musikverein where they perform an evening dedicated to Czech music followed by two performances of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.
