On 25 December, Semyon Bychkov returns to conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in a special Christmas matinee performance of the complete music to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet.
The New Year also sees Bychkov make return appearances with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln (18-19 January) performing Smetana’s Má vlast and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester (24-25 and 27 January) in movements from Má vlast complimented by Tchaikovsky’s Second Piano Concerto with Kirill Gerstein.
At the beginning of January (9-11 January), Bychkov conducts his new Orchestra the Czech Philharmonic in Glanert’s Weites Land – its first performance in the Czech Republic in 20 years – Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto with Concertmaster and Associate Artist Josef Špaček, and Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony. At the end of the month, Bychkov and the Orchestra start their preparations for their next tour together to Germany and Belgium.
