Conductor Semyon Bychkov shares with the Concertgebouw Orchestra a great love for the music of the symphonic master storyteller Detlev Glanert. This time he will conduct Glanert’s Prager Sinfonie, setting texts by Franz Kafka, who was born in Prague. In addition to influences from Brahms, Mahler, Ravel and others, Glanert’s symphonic work reflects his experience as a composer of opera. Like no other, Glanert knows the power of drama and the human voice. His Prager Sinfonie combines Kafka’s storytelling skills through Tanja Ariane Baumgartner and Christian Immler with the colourful richness of the orchestra.

Felix Mendelssohn, too, was a born musical storyteller, as his atmospheric ‘Scottish’ Symphony illustrates.
