VENUE NOTE:
The very first notes to be heard in the Isarphilharmonie were written by Thierry Escaich. With its dazzling »Arising Dances«, the Munich Philharmonic inaugurated its new venue in October 2021. In the current season, Escaich’s music is a focus of the program. His new piano concerto »Etudes symphoniques« will be performed by the internationally acclaimed young South Korean keyboard poet SEONG-JIN CHO. Like Thierry Escaich, who is represented in concert halls both as an organ virtuoso and as a composer, Sergei Rachmaninov also practiced the transition of professions. Throughout his life, he felt torn between his dual role as instrumentalist and composer. In a phase of doubt and inner turmoil, his Symphony No. 2 was also written. With melodic and tonal opulence, Rachmaninov seems to want to defy the stylistic upheavals of the beginning of the 20th century. Thank God!, one would like to say in view of this rapturous richness of sound!
