On Saturday 29 May, the Czech Philharmonic under Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov return to Vienna for the first time since both the Czech Republic and Austria emerged from their second lockdowns this spring. Travelling from Prague, the Orchestra will give two concerts at the Konzerthaus to a tested and socially distanced audience. The interval-less programme features Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony and Bryce Dessner’s Concerto for Two Pianos with soloists Katia and Marielle Labèque to whom the work is dedicated.
Making up for the series of concerts that was due to have taken place at the Konzerthaus this season, the Czech Philharmonic will return to Vienna on 13 June for a further two concerts.
Live music making will also be returning to the Czech Republic this summer as the Czech Philharmonic present a series of eight free concerts at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Semyon Bychkov and the Orchestra will be joined by soloist Kirill Gerstein for Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, paired with Mendelssohn’s Fourth Symphony. Following the latest government guidance and performing to a hall at 50% capacity, the programme will be performed twice each evening on 9-10 June and 17-18 June.
