VENUE NOTE:
The French pianist Marguerite Long is the dedicatee of Ravel’s Piano Concerto, which she premièred in 1932. Her name was closely associated with the work, particularly abroad, and she frequently played it under the direction of the composer himself – until his death in 1937. Marguerite Long was generally regarded as a specialist in the new French school. Numerous works by Gabriel Fauré, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc and Eric Satie, among others, are dedicated to her. Early on, she was in close artistic and friendly contact with Gabriel Fauré and, especially after the First World War, with Claude Debussy and later Maurice Ravel.
Alice Sara Ott as soloist
94 years after its premiere by Marguerite Long, Alice Sara Ott will perform the piano concerto with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Semyon Bychkov. The piano concerto will be accompanied by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Italian Symphony and Igor Stravinsky’s ballet »Pulcinella«.
