Following his three week stint appearing at major European festivals and opening the season with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Semyon Bychkov is at the helm of the Gewandhausorchester of Leipzig this week, conducting three concerts featuring Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto with the Russian pianist Kirill Gerstein, and Franz Schmidt’s opulent late-Romantic Second Symphony.
